Coordinator, Public Engagement (1 Year Contract)

The Coordinator, Public Engagement plays a critical role in the delivery and measurement of Perimeter’s short and long-term public outreach, scientific promotion and public engagement events. As the Coordinator, Public Engagement you will execute on public engagement activities by refining and working with detailed plans, finalizing schedules and working to budgets, broadly collaborating with Perimeter's Communications and External Relations teams.

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Public Engagement – the Coordinator, Public Engagement will ensure the development, planning and scheduling of internal arts and cultural events with the goal of celebrating Perimeter's culture and resident community building.

This position is being offered as a one year contract with the possibility of extension. Contract opportunities at Perimeter offer competitive compensation, paid vacation and health insurance. 

Core Duties and Responsibilities 

Program Management Coordination

Actively assist with the management, planning, logistics coordination and execution for programs and initiatives for Perimeter, including but not limited to:

  • Creating, keeping and managing a master calendar of events and activities for Perimeter managed properties
  • Refinement and management of public engagement budgets
  • Coordination of reporting and communications processes, and completion of reports
  • Day-to-day execution of programs including, but not limited to:
    • Perimeter’s Public Lecture Series
    • Festivals and events onsite at Perimeter
    • Festivals and events across Canada and Internationally which are affiliated with Perimeter
    • Perimeter content screenings (e.g. IMAX movie)
    • Perimeter’s national presence at pre-existing and novel public-oriented scientific events/ conferences/ meetings
    • Perimeter’s Doors Open Waterloo activities
    • Perimeter-on-the-road podcast/ video recording/ broadcast initiatives across Canada
    • Strategic community building initiatives, forging closer ties with municipalities and institutions in the Waterloo Region
    • Development and distribution of internal reports and external documents
    • Perimeter residents arts and cultural events and activities
    • Other public programming as directed

Perimeter Outreach

  • Respond to external inquiries with professionalism and tact in a timely manner
  • Engage with Special Guests and Key Stakeholders as their visit relates to the Institute’s overall initiatives
  • Face-to-face interactions with high level Perimeter partners and VIPs - both on-site at Perimeter and at on-location activities
  • Growing positive relationships among regional, national, and international outreach partners 

Education Knowledge, and Abilities Required

  • Postsecondary education in a related field such as business, event management, public relations or equivalent working experience is required
  • Previous experience in program logistics management
  • Demonstrated achievements in propelling events for general public
  • Understanding of research/academic institutions is an asset
  • Demonstrated success working with staff, volunteers, vendors and other stakeholders 
  • Demonstrated achievements in project management, coordinating timelines, budgets and reporting
  • Previous budget management experience is considered an asset 
  • Proactive, independent and highly organized
  • Strong project management skills including scope, scheduling, cost, and execution of events
  • Highly professional and diplomatic communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure 
  • Ability to multitask
  • Proficient in MS applications
