Mac OSX
Note: You need administrative rights on your computer in order to setup and connect to the VPN!
Tiger Users:
- Download, install and run Tunnelblick http://tunnelblick.net)
- Tunnelblick should open in the top-right status area (next to the clock). Click the Tunnelblick icon and choose Quit.
- <ctrl>-click vpn.ca.crt, and choose "Download Linked File" (or your browser's equivalent). Save to disk. If the suffix .txt is automatically added by your web browser, remove it.
- <ctrl>-click PerimeterVPN.conf, and choose "Download Linked File" (or your browser's equivalent). Save to disk. If the suffix .txt is automatically added by your web browser, remove it.
- In Finder, Go, Home, Library, openvpn. Delete any files in this folder, then copy the vpn.ca.crt and PerimeterVPN.conf files here.
- Open the Tunnelblick program again.
- Click the Tunnelblick icon in the top-right hand status area, Details
- Check Set Nameserver (alternate 1)
When you connect, you will be prompted for your mac password (as tunnelblick requires admin privileges) and then your Perimeter username and password.
- Profit!
Tunnelblick seems to crash a lot. The following blog post describes one method on how to recover from this: http://matthew.mceachen.us/blog/tunnelblick-crash-recovery-12.html
Leopard Users:
Leopard users will find the ViscosityVPN client to be more stable than Tunnelblick, even though Tunnelblick will continue to work.
- Download and install the ViscosityVPN program from http://www.viscosityvpn.com/
- Run Viscosity from Applications. It will open as an icon in the top-right status bar.
- If you had Perimeter's VPN setup with Tunnelblick previously, you can import the Tunnelblick connections when prompted (these prompts have a habit of opening behind other windows) and you are ready to go.
- Otherwise, click the Viscosity icon and Quit Viscosity.
- <ctrl>-click ca.crt, and choose "Download Linked File" (or your browser's equivalent). Save to disk. If the suffix .txt is automatically added by your web browser, remove it.
- <ctrl>-click config.conf, and choose "Download Linked File" (or your browser's equivalent). Save to disk. If the suffix .txt is automatically added by your web browser, remove it.
- In Finder, Go, Home, Library, Application Support, Viscosity, OpenVPN. Create a folder named "1" and open the newly-created folder. Copy the ca.crt and config.conf files here.
Now you should be able to open Viscosity, click its icon and choose "Connect PerimeterVPN".
