Myers Named Among World's Most Influential Scientists for Third Straight Year

Perimeter’s Robert Myers was the only physicist based in Canada among the top scientists in Thomson Reuters’ recent citation analysis.

Perimeter Faculty Chair Robert Myers has once again found his name on a list of the world’s most influential scientific minds.

Myers was recently recognized on the “2016 Highly Cited Researchers” list put out by Thomson Reuters’ Intellectual Property and Science division (now known as Clairvate Analytics), marking his third consecutive year on the list.

The list was compiled by analyzing citation data from a recent 11-year period (2004-14) to identify researchers who published the greatest number of highly cited papers – those falling within the top one percent for their field and publication year based on Web of Science data. The methodology emphasizes recent contributions, which can come from early- and mid-career researchers, as well as established scientists such as Myers.

Myers was the only physicist based at a Canadian institution to make the 2016 list. It spanned 22 areas of science and social science and included 3,000 researchers, including 110 physicists globally.

Myers joined Perimeter as one of its founding faculty members in 2001 and was named Faculty Chair in 2010. He has made seminal contributions to our understanding of black hole microphysics, D-branes, and the application of entanglement entropy to holography and renormalization group flows.

Juan Ignacio Cirac, a Perimeter Distinguished Visiting Research Chair based at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Germany, joined Myers on the list for the second consecutive year.
