Bicycles

PI has 2 bicycles for visitors use during nice weather (Spring-Fall). These bikes may be rented on a day to day basis unless special arrangements are made with the Visitor Program Coordinator.

Grand River Transit travels throughout the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge on a fixed route schedule.  In particular, there are direct buses from Uptown Waterloo to both universities (Route 7), Fairview Mall (Route 8) and Conestoga Mall (Route 12).  Fares are $2.50 and are good for 60 minutes of travel.  Tickets may be at reduced fares at the Kitchener Bus Terminal or any location displaying the GRT TICKET AGENT sign, including grocery and convenience stores.  Tickets are $1.75 each and exact change must be used to purchase them.

Greyhound Bus Lines

Greyhound Bus lines offer transit to other cities, and depart from the Grand River Transit Kitchener Bus Terminal. To get to the station take the Grand River Transit Bus #7 South on King Street.  This will take you directly to the Greyhound Terminal where a bus leaves about every hour to Toronto.

Car Rentals

Please contact the Researcher Services Administrator if you need assistance in renting a car. Perimeter Institute has negotiated special rates with Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Waterloo. However, Enterprise does not have an office at Pearson Airport, in Toronto, and they charge $150.00 should you want to leave the car at the airport.

Train

Via Rail Canada
Whether you would like to go to Toronto for a day or take several weeks vacation across Canada, Via Rail offers a scenic, affordable means of transportation. 

PI Shuttle

Shuttle Service
Perimeter Institute's shuttle van service is available to researchers to facilitate collaborations, attendance at seminars, and other research related activities at surrounding universities and institutes. Contact Shuttle Service if they have a request for use of the van and driver.  

Airport Shuttle / Limousine

The Visitor Program Coordinator can help coordinate travel to and from the airport.  You can also book your own travel, or ask for assistance after reviewing the points below to determine which option is best.

Airways Transit
Airways Transit, 519.886.2121, makes frequent pickups and stops along the way, and has a regular shuttle leaving from the Waterloo Inn.  If two or more people are traveling, it is less expensive to use Five Star Limousine (see below).

Five Star Limousine Service
If there is more than one person traveling, it would be less expensive to use a limousine service, with the added benefit that you will be taken directly to your destination without frequent stops for other passengers.

Airports

Region of Waterloo International Airport
This regional airport is serviced by Northwest Airlines, WestJet Airlines, Skyservice (numerous vacation destinations offered through Sunquest and Signature Vacations), and Ultimate Ski Vacations (to Mont-Tremblant, PQ).  Check their website for schedules to an expanding list of destinations. Many charter companies operate out of this airport.
