Official Contest Rules

1. ELIGIBILITY

The Perimeter Institute “I Love Science” Video Contest (the “Contest”) is open only to natural persons who are legal residents of Canada, and are Canadian students in grades 9 – 12 (CEGEP in Quebec), who are between the ages of 14 and 19, and are enrolled full-time in a Canadian public, private or home school. Students must currently reside in Canada.
The participants agree that Perimeter Institute may display and use part or all of their video for promotional purposes.
You are not eligible to enter or to win if you are: (a) an employee, officer, director, representative or agent of Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics; (b) a member of the immediate family (parent, child, sibling, spouse, grandparent, grandchild, cousin, aunt or uncle, whether related through blood, marriage, common law, civil union or adoption, regardless of where they live) or household (whether related or not), of any of the above individuals. Contest void where prohibited.
Internet access with sufficient bandwidth to upload a video and a valid email account are required. If you do not have Internet access via a personal computer, your local library or Internet café may be able to provide access to the Internet and a number of Internet service providers and other companies offer free email accounts.
If an entrant is under the age of majority in the province or territory in which he/she resides, he/she must have the permission of his/her parent or legal guardian to enter the Contest. Entrant may be required to provide written proof of such permission upon request of the Contest organizer.

2. ENTRY PERIOD

(i.e. the period during which Entries are accepted)
Eligible entrants may submit an Entry (as hereinafter defined) in the Contest between 12:00:01 AM Eastern Time (ET) on April 10, 2010 and 11:59:59 PM (ET) on May 10, 2010 (the “Entry Period”).

3. HOW TO ENTER

A. CREATE YOUR VIDEO
Prepare a video no longer than thirty (30) seconds in length and submit to the Contest Website (the “Video”). Make a video with the theme “I Love Science” and why you feel this way. Videos must be shot, edited and produced by students. No professional help is permitted. The video must contain a likeness of you (live, still photos, clay-mation, cartoon, etc.) The video must not contain content that is inappropriate or dangerous. The video must contain only original material. The video must be exceptionally creative and entertaining.
All entries must be in mp4, avi, or mov format and may not exceed a file size of 2 GB. For detailed technical specifications, see the Dailymotion FAQ.

B. SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY
Once you have created your video, you’ll need to upload it to the Dailymotion "I Love Science" group, as follows:

i. Go to http://www.dailymotion.com/group/ilovescience.
ii. Click ‘Upload a video to this group’. A login page appears.
iii. If you already have an account, log in. If you do not have account, create one at this time. Note that Dailymotion supports OpenID.
iv. Ensure you are at the ‘I Love Science’ group page.
v. Start uploading your video, as instructed. Then, enter the Title, Channel (Tech and Science), Tags, and Description, as appropriate.
vi. Once the upload is complete, click Save. Your video is uploaded, and now appears on your Dailymotion page. Your video will be reviewed and, if approved, published to the contest group within 48 hours.
vii. You’ll need your username ID and the video permalink when you complete Part C below, “Contest Registration”.

C. CONTEST REGISTRATION
Once you have uploaded your video, go to www.perimeterinstitute.ca/outreach/students/ilovescience, and complete the contest registration form. You must complete this form and meet eligibility requirements to be officially entered in the contest.

4. ENTRY CONDITIONS

A. Each Entry must:

i. Be an original work, created solely by the entrant registered on the Contest Website, and over which the entrant has all necessary rights, title and interest, including copyright;
ii. Not infringe upon the intellectual property rights, or defame or invade the publicity or privacy rights, of any third party, living or deceased;
iii. Not be confusingly similar to, or use, the brand names, trade names, trademarks or logos of any third parties;
iv. Be primarily in English and/or French;
v. In the case of the Video, be submitted in one of the following video file formats: mp4, avi, mov and be no more than 2 GB in size;
vi. In the case of the Video, not exceed thirty (30) seconds in length as submitted to the Contest Website;
vii. Be suitable for family audiences and for display and publication on national television, in the sole determination of the Contest Organzier. Without limitation, Entries shall not contain any content that is or contains: the promotion of unlawful behaviour, profanity, nudity, explicit sexuality, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, or is hatefully, racially, ethnically or otherwise offensive or objectionable;
viii. Comply with the Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, and other contracts and policies governing Dailymotion.
ix. Have been created specifically for this Contest, and have not been previously published, or entered into, or received any awards in, any other contest or competition;
x. The entrant must not create a false identity, or impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent an affiliation with any person or entity;
xi. Be consistent with the Contest Organizer’s public image; and
xii. Comply with these Official Contest Rules.

B. All Entries must follow these guidelines:

i. One entry per participant.
ii. In the case of multiple entires, only the first video submitted will be evaluated.
iii. Entries must be received during the Entry Period.
iv. Entries will only be accepted through the Contest Website.
v. No other means of transmission or delivery will be accepted.
vi. Entries must be reviewed by the Contest Organizer prior to becoming available on the Contest Website.
vii. Late, garbled, incomplete or misdirected Entries, or Entries that do not comply with these Official Contest Rules, will be declared void and will be ineligible to win.
viii. The sole determinant of time for the purposes of receipt of a valid Entry in this Contest will be the Contest server machine(s).
ix. All Entries shall be the sole property of the Contest Organizer and will not be returned.
x. All Entries will be reviewed for compliance with these Official Contest Rules, though such review does not relieve entrants from responsibility for compliance with these Official Contest Rules.
xi. The Contest organizer reserves the right to review any posted Entry at any time during the Contest for compliance with these Official Contest Rules and the Entry Conditions and to take such action as it deems appropriate, including removing any posted Entry.
xii. If more than one individual elects to collaborate on an Entry, they are required to designate one (1) person as the representative of the group (the “Representative”) to enter the Contest.
xiii. Any communications relating to this Contest will be directed solely to the Representative and, if declared a winner, the Grand Prize will be awarded solely to the Representative.
xiv. Neither the Contest Organizer nor any of the Contest Group are liable for any disputes between collaborators on any Entry, including but not limited to distribution of any applicable prizes.
xv. In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of an entrant, the Entry will be deemed to have been made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of registration for the Contest. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access or online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses.
xvi. Entrant acknowledges that the Entry is not being submitted in confidence or in trust, and that no confidential or fiduciary relationship is intended or created. The potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder.
xvii. The Contest Organizer reserves the right at any time, in its sole and absolute discretion, to disqualify any entrant and to remove (or to refuse to post) Entries from the Contest Website that it finds or believes not to comply with the conditions above or otherwise with these Official Contest Rules.

C. By submitting an Entry, the entrant:

i. Represents and warrants that he or she owns and controls all right, title and interest, including copyright, all elements of the Video;
ii. Has the right and authority to, and does hereby, grant to the Contest Organizer an irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free worldwide license in perpetuity to reproduce, broadcast, communicate, distribute, adapt, modify and otherwise use all or any part of the Entry submitted under this Contest on the Contest Website;
iii. Waives all moral rights in and to the Entry;
iv. By entering the Contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Contest Group (as defined below in Rule 11) from any and all claims that any commercial, advertising, presentation, web content or other material in any media throughout the universe subsequently produced, presented and/or prepared by or on behalf of the Contest Organizer, infringes with regard to any elements, characters or ideas contained in the Entry. For greater certainty, the Contest Organizer will not be responsible should any future packaging, advertising, promotion, or other independently developed creative, marketing or advertising materials bear any resemblance to an Entry that is not declared to be the winning Entry.

5. THE PRIZES

One prize each will be awarded to two individual entries.

The prize winners will each win a trip for two (2) to Waterloo, Ontario to attend a televised lecture given by Professor Stephen Hawking at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. This also includes return economy air transportation from the major airport closest to the winner’s place of residence in Canada, ground transportation to and from the Toronto Pearson Airport to Waterloo, Ontario, and two (2) nights double occupancy hotel accommodation (selection of airline carrier, seat and class, and hotel accommodations to be made at the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion). The Contest Organizer reserves the right to substitute air transportation with ground transportation in the event the Prize winner resides within 200 km of Waterloo, Ontario. The Prize winner and their parent or guardian must be available to travel for a two night period between June 19th and June 21st, 2010, as determined at the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

Any and all meals and expenses not expressly included herein, including without limitation, such expenses as telephone calls, in-room movies, mini-bar expenses, room service, gratuities, medical and travel insurance, excess baggage costs, optional tours, airport departure taxes, duties and all personal expenses of any kind or nature are the sole responsibility of the Prize winner and his/her parent or guardian. The Prize winner and his/her parent or guardian must travel together on the same itinerary. The Prize winner and his/her parent or guardian must have valid photo identification and other documentation required to travel, and must have no restrictions on their ability to travel between the dates specified above as contemplated herein. Should the Prize winner be unable to attend and participate in the event he or she may, at the Contest Organizer’s sole and absolute discretion, be disqualified and forfeit the opportunity to win the Prize.

The entrant eligible to win the Prize will be contacted by telephone at the number contained in the entrant’s Contest Website account profile (the “Grand Prize Eligibility Notification”) at any time between May 10, 2010 and June 4, 2010. The Entrant eligible to win the Prize must respond to the Prize Eligibility Notification promptly, and in any event, by Friday, June 4, 2010 at noon, Eastern Time, or the Entry may be disqualified and the prize forfeited, at the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion, and the next highest scoring Entry may be selected instead, which may be similarly disqualified.

By accepting the Prize, the Prize winner and their parent or guardian agrees to (a) allow Perimeter Institute to release their name and phone number to media and (b) accommodate and participate in all reasonable media appearance requests made by the Contest Organizer, including but not limited to interviews, press-releases, photo sessions and other Contest -related promotion (including print, television, internet or other broadcast).

6. PRIZE CLAIM CONDITIONS

Should a winner make any false statement(s) to the Contest Organizer, or is otherwise found to have engaged in conduct contrary to these Official Contest Rules, the winner may be required to promptly return to the Contest Organizer his/her prize. The prizes must be accepted as awarded, and cannot be transferred, substituted or exchanged except at the sole discretion of the Contest Organizer. Under no circumstances shall acceptance of any prize be deemed to create a relationship of employment, joint venture or partnership as between any winner and the Contest Organizer. Winners shall not be entitled to any benefits or entitlements beyond the prize described above.

7. RELEASES

All entrants are required to accept the Official Contest Rules and release the Contest Group (as defined below) from liability before their Entry will be accepted in the Contest. As outlined during the Entry submission process, by entering this Contest, entrants (a) confirm compliance with the Official Contest Rules and, if declared a winner, the acceptance of the any prize as awarded, without substitution, and (b) release the Contest Organizer, its parent, subsidiary and related companies, its advertising and promotional agencies, and each of their respective shareholders, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, the “Contest Group”) from any liability in connection with the Contest and any Contest-related travel or events, acceptance, receipt, or use of any prize, and (c) grant the license described in Rule 8.

Entrants acknowledge that if selected as the winner, the grant of rights described above includes, but is not limited to, the right (but not the obligation) at the Contest Organizer’s sole and absolute discretion, to use the Entry, or a modified, edited, renamed, reshot, recast, or translated version thereof, in whole or in part, (i) on the Contest Website and other Contest Organizer’s websites; (ii) for any advertising, marketing, promotion or non-commercial purpose. All decisions on the geographic location for such distribution shall be at the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion. Entrants acknowledge that they have no right of approval, notice, compensation, or consultation with respect to the Contest Organizer's use of the Entry. In the event that the Contest Organizer elects to air the Entry using the same individuals whose images, likeness and/or voices appear in the Entry, those individuals may be required to enter into and be bound by union, guild and/or other talent agreements upon the Contest Organizer’s request, and to fulfill any other conditions necessary to permit the Entry to be broadcast.

The Prize winner may be required to furnish proof of identification (or, if the Prize winner is a minor, then proof of identification must be provided by their parent or legal guardian) satisfactory to the Contest Organizer or the Contest Organizer’s designated agent as part of the verification process. The Prize winner may also be required to consent to a confidential background check to confirm eligibility and to confirm that the use of the identity of Prize winner in any advertising, publicity or other activities associated with the Contest or the Contest Organizer’s use of the Prize Entry would not bring the Contest or the Contest Organizer into disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule, other otherwise reflect unfavourably on the Contest and the Contest Organizer, as determined in the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion. If the results of the confidential background check are not satisfactory to the Contest Organizer, in its sole and absolute discretion, the Contest Organizer reserves the right to disqualify the Entry. All Entries are subject to verification, including without limitation, eligibility of the entrant and compliance with these Official Contest Rules.

8. MINORS

Notwithstanding anything else in these Official Contest Rules, in the event that any winner is under the age of majority in the province or territory in which s/he resides; the minor’s parent(s) or legal guardian will be required to sign a Declaration of Compliance and Release document on the minor’s behalf containing similar releases and limitations of liability as outlined in the Entry Form and Sections 11 and 14 of the Official Contest Rules

9. PRIVACY

By entering the Contest, entrants consent to the use of their personal information by the Contest Organizer and its authorized agents for the purpose of administering the Contest and fulfillment of the Prizes. By accepting a prize, winners consent to use by the Contest Organizer of winner’s first and last name, address (city/province), photograph, voice, appearance and statements in any publicity carried out by or on behalf of the Contest Organizer in any media, including the Internet, without further notice or compensation. Prize winner further consents to disclosure of his/her name in association with the Contest. 10. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY

Without limiting the generality of the Release Form described above, by entering this Contest, entrant releases, discharges, indemnifies and agrees to hold harmless the Contest Group from any real or alleged claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person or property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in this Contest, submission or posting of an Entry, or any Contest-related activity or from the acceptance of any prize.

The Contest Group will not be responsible for late, lost, corrupt, garbled, incomplete or destroyed Entries and all such Entries are void. The Contest Group will not be liable for: (a) any incomplete or inaccurate information, whether caused by Contest Website users, by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of Entries; (b) the theft, destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries or the Contest Website; (c) any problems with, or technical malfunctions of, telephone networks or lines, computer systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, viruses, trojan horses, worms, or bugs; (d) any failure of any electronic submission to be received by or from the Contest Organizer for any reason including but not limited to traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or combination thereof; or (e) damage to an entrant’s or other person’s system occasioned by participation in or downloading of materials in this Contest. The Contest Organizer does not warrant that access to or use of the Contest Website, or any third party websites, will be uninterrupted or error-free.

11. INDEMNIFICATION

By submitting an Entry, the entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Contest Organizer, its respective parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, successors, licensees, and assigns, and each of their directors, officers, agents, equity holders and employees, from and against any and all claims, losses, costs, damages, liabilities and costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) which may arise out of any breach of any of covenants, agreements, terms, obligations, representations or warranties set forth herein.

12. RIGHT TO TERMINATE, MODIFY OR SUSPEND

The Contest Organizer may at any time, at its sole discretion and without liability, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest in whole or in part, subject only to the approval of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the “Régie”) with respect to the province of Quebec, if fraud, technical failures including any network server or hardware failure, viruses, bugs, errors in programming, or communications or any other errors or other causes beyond the control of the Contest Organizer corrupt the administration, integrity or security of the Contest or if any other factor interferes with the conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these Official Contest Rules. Without restricting the generality of the foregoing, and subject to the permission of the Régie, in the event of early termination of the Contest, a notice will be posted on the Contest Website to that effect. In addition, for the purposes of determining eligibility to win a prize in the event of early termination of the Contest, all eligible Entries received prior to the time of early termination will be reviewed by the Contest Organizer, and for the purposes of these Official Contest Rules, the Contest Period will be deemed to have ended at the moment of early termination.

13. GENERAL

By entering the Contest, entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of the Contest Organizer which are final and binding in all respects related to this Contest. Entries become the property of the Contest Organizer and will not be returned.

The Contest Organizer reserves the right at its absolute discretion to vary, delete, or add to any of these Official Contest Rules from time-to-time without prior notice. In the event of conflict, these Official Contest Rules shall prevail over any of the contents of any other promotional materials advertising this Contest. The Contest Organizer reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process, the operation of the Contest, the Contest Website and/or scoring mechanisms, violates the Official Contest Rules, or acts with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, impersonate or harass any other person. The Contest Organizer reserves the right to correct any typographical, printing, computer programming or operator errors. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Contest Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. If any provision of these Official Contest Rules is found to be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, then it shall be, to the extent invalid or unenforceable, deemed omitted and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. No waiver on the part of the Contest Organizer to enforce of any term herein shall be deemed a continuing waiver or a waiver of any other term. WARNING: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CONTEST OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS.

14. QUEBEC RESIDENTS ONLY

Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses, et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
