WATERLOO, ON, January, 2009  - Christopher Fuchs, a Long Term Visitor at Perimeter Institute, was recently elected Vice-Chair of the American Physical Society's Topical Group on Quantum Information. Over his four-year term, Chris will be Vice-Chair this year, Chair Elect next year, Chair the following year, and finally Past Chair the year after that. The Topical Group on Quantum Information presently has approximately 1,000 members and aims to promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge about the physics of quantum information, computing, fundamental concepts, and quantum foundations. For more information on the Topical Group, visit www.aps.org/units/gqi/index.cfm.  Chris says that his main goal during his term is to build the topical group into a full-fledged APS Division.

Chris, who arrived at PI in 2007, has made many contributions to the fields of Quantum Information and Quantum Foundations. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo in the departments of Physics and Applied Mathematics, and at the University of New Mexico in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Chris earned his PhD from the University of New Mexico under the supervision of Carlton M. Caves, held postdoctoral positions at Los Alamos and the University of Montreal, and was a Lee DuBridge Prize Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech. Chris was a research staff member at Bell Labs for seven years before joining Perimeter Institute.
