Introduction to the Pure Spinor Formalism for the Superstring

Instructor: Nathan Berkovits, Instituto de Física Teórica, Universidade Estadual Paulista
Type: Perimeter Institute non-credit mini-course
Dates: August 24-26, 2011; 10:30 am, Alice Room

Because d=10 super-Poincare covariance is manifest and the worldsheet action is free in a flat background, the pure spinor formalism for the superstring does not suffer from the problems of the RNS or Green-Schwarz formalisms. In the first lecture, d=10 super-Yang-Mills and supergravity will be naturally described in this formalism. In the second lecture, the superstring action will be described in curved backgrounds including the AdS_5xS^5 Ramond-Ramond background. And in the third lecture, multiloop superstring scattering amplitudes will be computed.
