Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) is a leading international research centre whose goal is to catalyze breakthroughs in our understanding of the physical world. Under the leadership of Director Dr. Neil Turok, Perimeter is in the midst of a period of tremendous growth. The Institute is seeking an experienced and strategic manager to provide leadership in the critical area of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in order to meet present and future needs.

Working in a highly creative environment, the CIO is responsible for developing, recommending and implementing ICT strategies, policies, practices and services that will facilitate the achievement of the Institutes’ Research, Academic and Outreach objectives. The CIO has responsibility for ICT throughout the Institute in five main areas: Network and Communication Services, Infrastructure Services, Application Services, Research Support, and Audio/Visual Services.

The candidate we seek will have the following experience and interpersonal traits:

  • A self starter and finisher with ambition, vision and creativity 
  • A University degree in Computer Science or other related discipline
  • Demonstrated ICT Leadership and Management experience of at least 8 years
  • Solid business management experience in strategy, planning, budgeting, and operations
  • Experience in an ICT environment which effectively combines both internal resources and external service providers into an overall integrated solution; including a knowledge of defining and monitoring SLA’s
  • Decisive and effective in managing an organization facing the challenges of rapid change and fast growth
  • A history of strong and effective communications within an organization
  • The ability to collaboratively create, communicate and implement a strong and clear ICT vision
  • Excels at leading and working in a team environment
  • A “roll-up-the-sleeves” problem solver with a proactive “can do” approach
  • An astute negotiator, able to work through conflict to find a successful resolution
