Perimeter Institute shares the Power of Ideas with students across Canada. Classroom groups and large assemblies of youth can experience the wonders of modern physics and the excitement of research and discovery at the frontiers of knowledge. Through eye-opening and inspirational onsite presentations, an experienced and enthusiastic member of the PI outreach team stimulates youth with the sheer splendour of our universe and the power of the human mind to explore its mysteries, understand its workings, and apply this knowledge to help shape a better future for humankind. History shows, time and again, that curiosity-driven research in fundamental sciences lays the foundations for the biggest leaps in technological innovation and prosperity. These presentations focus on the process of science – imagination coupled with critical thinking – useful for all students in any endeavour they pursue. PI is eager to jump start our youth into becoming the next generation of explorers, inventors and deep thinkers putting the power of ideas to work. Current presentations: | The Physics of Innovation The science underpinning our technological world Suitable for grades 9 to 12 | | Our Amazing Universe A wild romp through Einstein’s space and time and the quirky quantum world Suitable for grades 9 to 12 | | The Mystery of Dark Matter What is 90% of our galaxy made of? One of the hottest mysteries in science today! Suitable for grades 11 and 12 |

| | | | | About the Presenter Richard Epp has a Masters degree in electrical engineering and a PhD degree in theoretical physics from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and has held postdoctoral research positions around the world working in general relativity: Einstein’s theory of space, time and gravity. With both an engineering and a theoretical physics background, Dr. Epp is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the entire spectrum of physics, from curiosity-driven research in quantum gravity to the applied physics of how a cell phone works. He has extensive outreach experience, having originated many of PI’s outreach initiatives, and immensely enjoys introducing people of all ages to the mysteries and wonders of our amazing universe. | | |
