Black Hole Science Cafes

The Black Hole Science Cafés provide an opportunity for members of the community interested in the exciting research happenings at PI to engage in informal discussions with researchers and members of the PI Outreach Team. Explore fascinating, cutting edge ideas about how our universe works - as revealed by theoretical physics - and ask questions! The Cafés consist of a 20 minute introduction to a chosen topic by Dr. Richard Epp of the PI Outreach Team, followed by a 40 minute Question and Answer session, possibly featuring a PI researcher specializing in that topic. To receive advance email notice regarding Outreach programs, join our mailing list(s) .

Our Quirky Quantum World

Speakers: Richard Epp, Raymond Laflamme
Our universe is unquestionably quantum in nature. What does this mean? Why does it matter? What’s in it for me? Join us for a fun and fascinating session on “what you need to know about the quantum.” Find out why we can’t live without it.

The World as a Hologram?

Speakers: Richard Epp, Robert Myers
Our universe has a split personality: quantum and relativity. Understanding how the two can coexist is one of the greatest challenges facing theoretical physicists in the 21st century. Join us for a mind-bending thought experiment that hints at some fascinating new ways of thinking.
