November Gathering Includes Leading Science Advisors and MinistersWATERLOO, Ontario, Canada, November 2010 - Perimeter Institute was pleased to host a visit by the world’s science and technology leaders during a recent Carnegie Group meeting in Ontario, Canada. Carnegie meetings provide a confidential forum with open exchanges among chief science advisors and ministers responsible for research from G13 countries and the European Union on science-related issues. PI provided an on-site opportunity for Carnegie guests to gather and kick-off their discussions. The full range of dignitaries included science advisors and ministers responsible for research from G13 countries and the EU. The lead delegates and their accompanying officials were welcomed to Canada by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology, and by Dr. Howard Alper, Chair of Canada’s Science, Technology and Innovation Council (STIC). The opening remarks were followed by a presentation from Perimeter Institute Director Neil Turok on the importance of basic research in the broader science, technology and innovation ecosystem as well as his insights on PI’s unique strengths and linkages throughout the world’s research, training and outreach communities. The event also included a tour of Perimeter Institute’s research facility and reception with PI researchers and senior administrative staff. Carnegie Group meetings are held once a year and are hosted on a rotating basis among participating countries.
