Barbara Palk Joins PI Board of Directors

WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada, December 4, 2010 – Mike Lazaridis, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI), is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Palk to the Institute’s Board of Directors.

Ms. Palk recently retired as President of TD Asset Management Inc., one of Canada’s leading money management firms, and as Senior Vice President of TD Bank Financial Group. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, a CFA Charterholder, and a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts.

In addition to her distinguished career in financial services, Ms. Palk has a long record of community service. Currently, Ms. Palk is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Queen's University and the Chair of its Investment Committee, and a member of the Boards of The Shaw Festival and Greenwood College School. Previously, Ms. Palk has served as a director of Unicef Canada, CanStage, and the Investment Counsel Association of Canada, as Vice Chair of the Board of the Canadian Coalition of Good Governance, and as a member of the Council of Examiners for The CFA Institute. She is a past Co-Chair of the Queen's University Advancement Committee, and past President of The Ticker Club.

Ms. Palk was honoured as a recipient of the Ontario Volunteer Award and by The Women’s Executive Network in 2004 as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 in the Trailblazer category.
