Gastronomy

Gastronomy

The Black Hole Bistro's newest series, Gastronomy - the art and science of good eating, showcases guests from Southern Ontario sharing their culinary knowledge about certain foods, and how to cook them.  All events take place in the Black Hole Bistro.  These events are designed for people who have a keen interest in food - where it comes from, how it's prepared and produced, as well as why good food matters.  The guests talk about how to eat better in the qualitative sense of the world, rant about issues like organic and local produce, wines cellared in Ontario and the importance of fine dining.

AN ARTIST WITH A SOILED REPUTATION
June 5, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Join us at the Black Hole Bistro for a special talk and exhibition by Antony John where he will share insights gained from his diverse background that inspire his life, work and the art he creates. The talk will be preceded by a wine and canape reception that will feature the freshest produce from Soiled Reputation, and Malivoire wines from Niagara.

"Some artists and scientists share similar goals in that their vocations compel them to seek, and give voice to, order and pattern in the universe about them. Indeed, in the Rennaissance, the artist and scientist were often the same person. On a personal level, my philosophies and artwork have been shaped by many seemingly disparate forces. First, as a wildlife biologist, then as a farmer. Recently I have been able to explore wilderness areas, notably in Costa Rica. What is emerging is a pattern of dualities in my life. Order and chaos, physical and intellectual, life and death, microscopic and massive, light and dark. Ultimately, my paintings represent a desire to find that fulcrum upon which to balance my life." - Antony John

Reception at 3pm
Talk at 4pm
