Benefit Concert for Japan: Trios from the East and West

Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 8 pm

The members of the Waterloo Region Japanese Canadian Community Association (WRJCCA) welcome you to join them at this special event, designed to bring people in the K-W area together to show support and solidarity for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan. 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Society whose strong presence on Japanese soil has continued to inspire hope to those who have been affected by the tragedy.

This concert, performed predominantly by Japanese musicians, is a unique blend of the East and the West. The music of Ten Ten may be described as 'Japanese folk tradition with a twist', and the Seraphine Piano Trio will perform two great classical works by two of the most beloved European composers of the Japanese people, Mozart and Mendelssohn.

The Seraphine Piano Trio is an ensemble dedicated to the presentation of Classical to Modern works from the mainstream classical piano trio repertoire. The group was founded by the pianist Sanae Nakajima, who is joined by Sarah Fraser Raff on the violin and Amber Ghent on the cello.

Ten Ten is a Japanese folk-inspired music trio headed by vocalist Aki Takahashi. The ensemble will perform a variety of traditional and original compositions performed on shamisen, bamboo flutes, voice and taiko drums.

Members:
Aki Takahashi - vocals, shamisen
Kiyoshi Nagata - taiko, shinobue
Scott Kusano - taiko, shakuhachi
