Remote Access

Email
Web access to your e-mail account is available by pointing your browser at https://owa.perimeterinstitute.ca/. It is recommended that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer as it supports extra functionality, but Safari and Firefox can also be used.

OpenVPN
Perimeter uses OpenVPN to provide seamless access to the resources on Perimeter's internal network (Intranet website, home directories, license services for Maple/Mathematica/Matlab etc.)

Please contact the IT staff to have to OpenVPN client software installed and configured on your laptop before you travel. Your account must be configured by an IT staff member to enable OpenVPN remote access.

When you run the OpenVPN client software, it contacts the OpenVPN server running at Perimeter, performs authentication, and then sets up an encrypted tunnel for network traffic to pass between the two machines. The client software uses a virtual Ethernet device on your laptop and will assign it an Internet Protocol (IP) address from those available internally at Perimeter. Whenever there is traffic destined for Perimeter's internal network, your laptop will route the network traffic through the OpenVPN tunnel.

If you are offsite and need to install OpenVPN, please contact the IT help desk for assistance.

SSH
Access to Perimeter's computing environment is also available through Secure Shell (SSH). Your account must be configured by an IT staff member to enable SSH remote access. Please contact the IT help desk for assistance.
