Licensing and Insurance

If you have a valid driver's license from another province, state or country, or an International driver’s license, you can use it for up to 60 days after you move to Ontario. If you want to keep driving in Ontario, you must get an Ontario driver's license. You must use your Ontario license when you are issued one.

Contact the Researcher Services Administrator to borrow a copy of the Ontario Driver's Handbook, or access it online.

Insurance

Vehicle insurance is mandatory for any vehicle registered & driven in Ontario, contact several different insurance brokers to get the best quote. You can contact the same brokers for any of your other insurance needs. Note - Be warned that most, if not all, insurance companies will only accept a Canadian or American driving record as proof of driving experience. However, a few insurance brokers will try to take into account your foreign driving records and negotiate with the insurance companies to provide a bit better rate than that of an "international driver."
