Faculty Position in Theoretical Particle Physics
Department of Physics and Astronomy, McMaster University and Associate Member, Perimeter Institute

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster University and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics invite applications for a joint appointment in the area of theoretical particle physics. This is a tenure-track faculty position at McMaster, in combination with Associate Membership at the Perimeter Institute. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; exceptional senior applicants may also be considered.

The successful candidate will have a strong background and record of accomplishment in elementary particle theory broadly defined (ranging from phenomenological studies, through more formal areas to particle-astrophysics), as well as an interest in the applications of theoretical particle physics to other areas of physics of interest to both Perimeter and the department, such as condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, string theory, quantum gravity, astrophysics, and cosmology. An important goal for this position is to further integrate the research activities of Perimeter and McMaster, and it is therefore paramount that the candidate fit well with the cultures of both organizations. Presently, one McMaster faculty member is a Perimeter Associate in theoretical particle physics, and three faculty members in other research areas have Affiliate status. Faculty with joint appointments are expected to spend significant amounts of time in both locations, and will have a suitably reduced teaching load.

Information about the Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster can be found at http://www.physics.mcmaster.ca/. Information about the Perimeter Institute is available at http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/.

The position is expected to commence on September 1, 2011. Applications received by January 1, 2011 are guaranteed to be reviewed; however, applications received after the date may be considered if the position is still open. The position will remain open until it is filled.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a research plan and a statement on teaching, and arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent on their behalf. Applications (including the letters) should be submitted through the Perimeter Institute's online application form, and sent to:

C. Wilson (Acting Chair)
Department of Physics and Astronomy
McMaster University
Hamilton, ON

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority. McMaster University and the Perimeter Institute encourage applications from all qualified individuals, including women, members of visible minorities, native peoples, and persons with disabilities.
