Perimeter Institute’s award winning outreach team communicates the importance of basic research and the power of theoretical physics to general audiences across Canada and beyond.  PI develops brilliant, young Canadians for the field by supporting a network of educators and providing high-quality, in-class resources.  The Institute also serves as a global resource to others by sharing programming online, presenting at international gatherings, and offering outreach expertise to organizations around the world.  

Perimeter Institute shares the joys of creative inquiry with the surrounding community through Event Horizons , an ambitious agenda of top quality musical and cultural events. These ticketed and sponsored events provide unique opportunities, while in Waterloo, to enjoy and interact with world class artists in the unique atmosphere of Perimeter Institute. 

General Audiences

Popular activities include the PI Public Lecture Series, the adventures of Alice & Bob in Wonderland, the interactive Power of Ideas experience, The Quantum Tamers broadcast documentary and an innovative 10th Anniversary celebration known as the Quantum to Cosmos: Ideas for the Future Festival.

Youth and Educators

PI connects through the EinsteinPlus Teacher Workshops, Perimeter Explorations in-class modules, Physica Phantastica on-location presentations and by offering the International Summer School for Young Physicists. 

Globally

The Institute reaches out globally by taking part in high level international gatherings, offering outreach expertise to others and by making most PI programming on modern physics (above) freely available online.  Additional resources include What We Research, Meet a Scientist, Black Hole Science Cafés and the Virtual ISSYP.

The CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics, which is being introduced in 2010, is intended to recognize excellence in teaching physics in Canadian high schools or CEGEPs and to encourage and promote physics at the high school/CEGEP level in Canada.
