WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada, May 7, 2009 - A summertime visit by Prof. Stephen Hawking to Waterloo, Ontario, is on hold for the moment as he recovers from his recent illness. Perimeter Institute Director, Prof. Neil Turok, says “Stephen is hugely supportive of Perimeter Institute, and he is as disappointed as we are that his visit has to be postponed. But for now, we must be patient and wish him a speedy recuperation." Professor Hawking holds a Distinguished Research Chair at Perimeter, and is a Patron of the new Perimeter Scholars International program. He is also the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University. About Perimeter Institute Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is an independent, non-profit, scientific research and educational outreach organization where international scientists cluster to push the limits of our understanding of physical laws and develop new ideas about the very essence of space, time, matter and information.
