Turtle Island String Quartet Plays Coltrane

This genre-busting quartet of musicians revives improvisational and compositional chamber traditions that have not been explored since the Classical era, and these facets of their music make their concerts some of the most creative music-making today. In exploring legendary sax player John Coltrane’s musical legacy, the Turtle Island String Quartet continues its own tradition of employing the string quartet form to shed new light on the timeless joy and beauty contained in the greatest music of the American jazz masters. $46/ticket, General Seating  eyeGo Tickets are available by phone NOTE: Open Ears Early Bird Festival passes do not include this performance.

Open Ears Festival features concerts in alternative venues, sound installations, symposia, workshops, guided soundwalks, dance & interdisciplinary performances. The 2009 Open Ears festival will include a concert of the music of legendary composer Lou Harrison by the Evergreen Club Gamelan (an Indonesian ensemble) followed by the world premiere of a feature film on his life, Nagata Shachu taiko drumming, the Flying Bulgar Klezmer band, talks by renowned acoustic ecologist and composer R. Murray Schafer followed by a "soundwalk" through the woods, the world premiere of new works for local legends Dancetheatre David Earle and the Penderecki String Quartet and observing new and recent sound sculptures by Janet Cardiff, Gordon Monahan, Giorgio Magnanensi and others.  The 2009 Open Ears Festival is on April 24th to May 3rd.  Early Bird Festival passes are $110.
